It is well known that St. Benedict's intercession has strength, and that strength can be released by our faith. The medal serves as a reminder that Christ's power protects us.

The Medallion of Saint Benedict

One of the most revered and ancient medals used by Christians, the "devil-chasing medal" gets its name from the idea that it may ward against evil. It may have first taken the shape of Saint Benedict's cross as early as the eleventh century, when Pope Leo IX used it. The Vade retro satana ("Begone, Satan!") incantation, which Christians have utilized to ward against evil since the 15th century, is displayed on the medal's reverse side. It can be found separately or carried as part of the rosary. 

Catholics can utilize the crucifix, holy water, the Saint Benedict Medal, and other sacramentals to fend off evil, but they are not allowed to execute exorcisms. In the center of a Celtic cross, the Saint Benedict Medal is thought to be a potent weapon against evil forces. 

This medal can be worn on a chain around the neck, fastened to a rosary, carried in a pocket or pocketbook, put in a car or house, placed in a building's foundation, or placed in the middle of a cross, among other places. 

Tradition suggests saying three Hail Marys to the Blessed Virgin Mary, five Gloria Patri to Jesus' Passion, and a Lord's Prayer to St. Benedict whenever you use the Medal-Cross or St. Benedict's Medal for these specific objectives. It is advised to recite these prayers daily in order to delve deeper into the spirit of devotion.
